From The Principal
Welcome to 2025!
It has certainly been an exciting first two weeks with students returning to school for a new year. For the most part, students seem keen and happy. Of course, there are always some anxieties and tears at the start of the year, however on the whole, these always disappear as students settle into their new class. At any stage throughout the year, if your child is having difficulties, I encourage you to reach out to their classroom teacher, My experience has been that the earlier the School is made aware of any concerns, the easier it is to get on top of them.
It has been a blessing to begin the year with a new and full staff team. We welcome Emma Davenport (Deputy Principal), Nanette Medau, Roy Ewin & Fiona Hutchins (Learning Assistants) to our team. On Sunday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, our new staff were officially installed in their roles and our existing staff received a blessing for the year ahead.
What’s new in 2025?
Communication
We are streamlining the way we communicate with families this year to ensure consistency across the school.
Email
Our main form of communication between home and school this year will be via email. All teachers have a school email address and they will email (or call) all communication directly related to your child, either academic, behavioural or social & emotional. I ask that you please allow 24 hours for a response. If it’s urgent, please call the office and a message will be passed through.
School Facebook Page
As we welcome several new families into our community, I would like to take this opportunity to encourage all parents with a Facebook account, to ‘like’ our Lutheran School Wagga Wagga page so that you can keep up to date with videos and photos of events that are happening around our school. This is also a great way for the community to see the wonderful things that are happening at Lutheran School.
https://www.facebook.com/lutheranschoolwaggawagga
The school has created private Facebook groups for parents of each year group to help foster communication and a sense of community. These groups provide a space to share updates, ask questions, and connect with other parents. It’s a great way to stay informed about school events, important announcements, and support one another throughout the school year. We encourage all parents to join and engage with their year group’s community!
Seesaw
This year, Seesaw will serve as both a digital portfolio for student work and a tool for homework. Seesaw is intended to be a space for student-driven learning and sharing, It helps to build a connection between home and school. Parents can easily access their child’s work, offering opportunities to support and engage with their progress at home. Teachers will be using Seesaw to assign homework instead of Google Classroom, making it simpler for students to access and submit assignments. This is a fantastic way to stay connected to your child’s learning journey. If you haven’t yet linked to your child’s account, please contact their classroom teacher.
The year has begun full of hope and excitement for what God has in store for us here at Lutheran. Thank you for your ongoing support of our School.
Blessings

Principal
From The DEPUTY Principal
Welcome to the new school year! It’s been a joy to see so many happy new and returning faces in the classrooms and on the playground. We are excited to collaborate with parents, carers, students, and the wider community throughout this year.
Chapel and Assemblies
This year Chaplain Darren will lead our Kindergarten – Year 6 students in Chapel every Friday from 9:10am – 9:40am.
Assemblies will be held on Friday afternoons at 2:20pm in the Chapel. These will occur 3 times each term and for Term 1 these will be held in Weeks 3, 6 & 9. Next week in our first assembly for the year, our Semester One Student Representative Council (SRC) members will be officially installed into their roles.
Parents and carers are always welcome to our Assemblies and Chapels. Parents and carers you will be notified via email if your child is to receive an award at the next assembly.
Drop off & Pick Up Reminders
Thank you to all of our community members for helping to keep our students safe as they arrive and depart from school.
Drop Off
Please do not drop off your child prior to 8:15am. We do not supervise students until this time. Students who arrive between 8:15 and 8:30am are supervised at the silver seats outside the library only. At 8:30, students are taken to their area, K-2 or 3-6, and are supervised while they unpack and play until the bell goes at 8:55am. A reminder that the K-2 Playground is closed before and after school.
Pick Up
School pick up can be hectic and our aim is to have cars and buses to be able to enter and exit in an orderly manner and most importantly have students exit the school safely.
All students catching a bus wait at the bus stop (or initially near the library then up at the bus stop for later buses).
The only quick pick-up area is via the Kindergarten carpark. This operates each day from 3:20-3:35pm.
At quick pick up:
- Remain in your car
- Ensure your name card is placed on your visor
- Move ahead with the cars in front of you
- Be aware of cars around you and students walking along the path
- Follow the directions of staff on duty
Please do not use the quick pick-up zone if:
- Your child needs assistance to enter the car
- You need to exit your car to put your child in their car seat/ booster.
Park in the bays and collect your child instead.
The main carpark is not to be used for quick pick up. There is not a member of staff supervising along the walkway. If you would like to use this car park, please park in the bays and collect your child from the supervised library area. Please be cautious of queuing along the roadway here also. Buses are unable to get to the pickup area when cars queue through the main driveway.
An alternative…
There is plenty of street parking along Tamar Drive. You may like to park and collect students from the classrooms or gates, or for older students have them meet you at the car. Our school crossing supervisor is there morning and afternoon to make sure our students can cross the road safely.
Electronic Devices Agreement
Last week your child brought home their Electronic Device Usage Agreement. Please take the time to go through this agreement with your child, sign it, and return it to your child’s teacher.
Student Information Parent Questionnaire
We recently sent home a questionnaire for parents and carers to complete with student information. If you haven’t already done so, please take a moment to fill it out and return it to your child’s teacher. This is an additional opportunity for you to share important and valuable information about your child with their teacher.
School Photos
School Photo Day is coming up soon! Please mark your calendars for Tuesday 25th February.
To ensure your child is prepared for their photo, please make sure they are dressed in full summer uniform with hair neatly presented, and shoes clean and shiny. The envelopes for ordering went home on Monday. Please return them by Monday 24th February. Sibling photo envelopes are available from the office.
Kindergarten 2025
Our Kindergarten students have arrived and have made a wonderful start to their primary school journey, learning all about the routines of Kindergarten, making friends and having lots of fun. Please make our new families and students welcome.
Parent Volunteers
As a Lutheran school, we want everyone in our school community to have a positive, safe, and respectful learning experience. To help us achieve this, we ask parent volunteers to complete the online Valuing Safe Communities (VSC) module. This training from the LEA covers important national policies and guidelines that help us maintain healthy relationships in our school, and it helps volunteers understand and follow these guidelines.
Complete the online module ‘Valuing Safe Communities’. Please see information below
The module will take around 25 minutes to complete.
Upon completion of the module you will receive a certificate, please email this certificate to [email protected] .
Once you have completed this process your parent volunteer status will be valid for 3 years. This means you are then able to assist in the classroom, sporting events and carnivals, excursions and overnight camps.
Scholastic Book Club
Lutheran School is now participating in Scholastic Book Club. Once a term, a catalogue with a different selection of books offered for all ages will be sent home with your child. You’ll find award-winning books and bestsellers, as well as old and new favourites. We recommend them because the books span a wide range of children’s reading levels and interests and because they are inexpensive (some books cost as little as $3).
It is easy to order. The Book Club LOOP platform for parents allows you to pay by credit card. Your child’s order is submitted directly to school safe and sound and the books will be delivered to class. You can place your child’s order at http://scholastic.com.au/LOOP or using the LOOP app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play.
Instructions for using LOOP can be found below:
All orders are due by 24/2/25
Care Coordinators
During the Parent Meet & Greet evening tonight, Chaplain Darren will speak about volunteering your time as a Care Coordinator. The role of the Care Coordinators within the school is to be a link between the school and year group parents, organise some social events for the parents for the grade and to act as a support for families who might be experiencing some hardship. Finally, it is about building a sense of community within the school.
Thank you to the parents who have already volunteered to be Care Coordinators for 2025.

Values Focus
As we installed our year 6 leaders this week I reflected on Jesus calling his disciples and two things came to mind:
The first is that when Jesus called them, whether they be fishermen, tax collectors, business owners or zealot they all became something new. Some of the disciples received new names to emphasise the change, to Simon Jesus said your doubts are wild and wobbly, but I will call you the Rock, to Matthew Jesus said you are not a cheat, fill your heart with love, not money and to Mary Magdalene Jesus said you are not bad, you are a tower of truth and you are loved.
The second thing is that Jesus said that his followers would be known by their love, not by their capacity to command an audience, lead people into battle, make people laugh or to be amazing at sports… but by their love.
When we installed our year 6 leaders they received their badges, like the disciples their names changed, they are now leaders, whether it be through supporting worship, helping run technology, lead house groups or representing the school in a variety of ways, and as leaders will continue to build God’s kingdom of love here at Lutheran School, Wagga Wagga. As a school we gave thanks and prayed for them and, as we did were reminded that they, and indeed each of us will be known for our love.
Shalom
