MISSION STATEMENT

To work under God in partnership with parents to provide an inclusive, nurturing and high quality education for every student.

VIsion

Flourishing through faith, belonging and the pursuit of excellence.

From The ACTING Principal

Dear School community,

I am writing to inform you that unfortunately, I have been diagnosed with bowel cancer which will require immediate surgery. My last day at the school will be Wednesday 28 February.

In the meantime, Mrs Hollie Kinning will be the interim Principal from Monday 4 March for the remainder of Term 1. Hollie is currently the Deputy Principal at St Pauls Lutheran school in Henty. The executive team and I will be meeting with Hollie today. I know the Lutheran school community will make Hollie feel welcome when she starts at the school.

I would like to thank all of the staff, teaching, and non-teaching at Lutheran School for their hard work and complete commitment to their roles. It has been a pleasure working with you all. I have enjoyed my time at Lutheran School immensely and will miss my daily interactions with the students and families.

God’s richest blessings to you all for the remainder of 2024.

Dylan Evans

Acting Principal

From The ACTING DEPUTY Principal

Communication with Parents
At the end of this term, we will be hosting parent teacher conferences, as a formal opportunity for parents and carers to talk to teachers about how their child is progressing academically, their learning habits and their social/ emotional development at school. We have made this change in consultation with, and as a result of feedback from the parent community. Please know that communication between teachers and home can happen at other times also, and we encourage parents and carers to organise to meet face-to-face with their child’s teacher promptly if they have any concerns or would like to know specific information about their child’s progress.

Clubs
Last year we began running ‘Clubs’ as part of our holistic approach to wellbeing and provision for encouraging engagement in a range of specialist learning areas. We will be again running ‘Clubs’ this year, multiple times each term on a Friday afternoon. We look forward to sharing further information about the opportunities and activities our students will participate in.

Pancake Day
This year we again welcomed members from the Bethlehem Lutheran Church who cooked pancakes with Chaplain Darren for all of our students on Pancake Day (Shrove Tuesday). Pancake Day is the day before Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of Lent, a period where people give things such as sweet treats up or do additional duties/ volunteer work. Shrove Tuesday is often seen as the last opportunity to consume these treats and use up what’s in your cupboard. It’s also therefore popularly known as Pancake Day. We thank members of the congregation for volunteering on the day.

Kinder NRMA Bus Excursion
On Tuesday, Kindergarten students welcomed Perry from Busabout, Sarah from NRMA and Kym from Wagga Police who spoke with our students about how to ride a bus safely, and who trusted adults are. They were also lucky enough to take a Bus ride to put their new learning into practise.

Mr Evans – Thank you!
I would like to take this opportunity to formally thank Mr Dylan Evans for the considerable and esteemed contribution he has made to our Lutheran School Wagga Wagga community over the last 13 years. In his time at LSWW, Dylan has supported the life and progress of the school in many roles including Classroom Teacher, Curriculum Coordinator, Deputy Principal and Acting Principal. Along the way Dylan has developed significant and lasting relationships with our students, parents and staff. He will be greatly missed by all of us.
We wish Dylan God’s blessings in the treatment of his health over the coming months and ask that you keep Dylan and his family in your prayers. We will see you back for a visit soon Mr Evans.

Lauren Forsyth
Acting Deputy Principal

Values Focus

This week in Chapel we heard the story of Jesus calling Peter and other fisherfolk to follow him.

It is my understanding that back in Jesus’ day children would grow up learning the Hebrew scriptures, by 10, most children would be sent home to learn the trade of their family while only a select few would graduate. When they graduated, students would search for a Rabbi (Teacher) they wanted to follow and ask them if they could be their disciple and learn what it means to be a Rabbi.  If the Rabbi took them on, they would leave everything and follow them until they become a Rabbi themselves, if the Rabbi said no, they would return home to continue to learn and practice a trade.

The story of Jesus calling disciples is interesting because he invites outcasts, people who did not “make the grade” to follow him, in Peter, James, Andrew and John’s case fisherman.

I find that both surprising and encouraging, if Jesus can call them, perhaps he can call me. Perhaps he can call you and your family.  Jesus calls us to be disciples, like he did Peter, to follow him and lean to do what Jesus does.

One question for us is, will we drop everything, follow and learn to be like Jesus?

Shalom

Darren Wright
