Community Connections
As the days roll by, I’m enjoying getting to know Lutheran school, how it operates and the people within it. It’s been a week of many meetings, however, it’s in these moments that you realise the strength of a community and the many people that contribute to ensure its success. I’m genuinely impressed by the informative sessions that have been on offer this week. On Monday, Lauren Forsyth (Acting Deputy) ran a very informative session on Literacy Support on offer here at Lutheran School. Tuesday, Constable Kym Crawford ran a cyber safety session for parents. He shared about the importance of monitoring social media, internet usage and the dangers that can follow if not managed properly. Following this I attended the P&F meeting, (the next meeting is Tuesday 7th May). P&F groups are always made up of passionate parents who want the best opportunities for our students. I’m grateful for these parents – thank you! It’s really encouraging to see the many opportunities for families to engage within our school community. Any opportunity to connect and build relationships is a worthwhile one.
Harmony Week
I had the pleasure of leading the whole school in Chapel on Monday morning as we discussed Harmony week and what this means. The week is an opportunity to celebrate and recognise our diversity and bring Australians together from all different backgrounds. We spoke about our stories, where we’ve come from and how we should be proud of our history. I shared three Bible readings…
You are God’s masterpiece. Ephesians 2:10
I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works. Psalm 139:13-14
Show respect to everyone. 1 Peter 2:17
God has created us just the way He wanted us to be. We should celebrate our differences and diversity and the things that make us unique, always showing respect to each other in our differences.

Lutheran Learner Awards
Every Friday I get to recognise a handful of students from every class who have been acknowledged for great work in one of three areas: Academic growth, Social and Emotional learning or Lutheran School values. It’s wonderful to be able to celebrate these achievements and the look on students’ faces when they receive one of these awards is priceless. Not only this, but the encouragement students also receive from their peers as they celebrate shows a genuine respect for one another. Humility, love, respect and appreciation are some of our school values that come to mind.
Blessings,

From The ACTING DEPUTY Principal
We have enjoyed what has been a busy but learning focused couple of weeks. Thank you, parents, for your support as we provide many opportunities for our students to support holistic learning across many areas.
Clubs
Students have thoroughly enjoyed their participation in special interest ‘Clubs’ over the last two Friday afternoon sessions. This year we have included some new ‘Club’ options. It is wonderful to see our teachers and students share fun and exciting learning experiences in broad areas.
Parent Volunteers
It has been wonderful to see so many parents offer to support the school by completing our volunteer procedures so they can volunteer at upcoming events such as the Cross Country Carnival. The process for registering to become a volunteer is quite simple – a short meeting with the Deputy Principal or Principal, completion of a form outlining our school expectations for volunteers and an online module. Please see the school calendar to find out when the next Volunteer Information session will run. If this time does not work for you, please get in contact with Mrs Nicole Verus, to arrange an alternate time. The support of our volunteers ensures we can put on well organised carnivals and provide many opportunities for students in many areas of learning.
SRC
This week our Student Representative Council members met to discuss upcoming events and plan for support and fundraising. We discussed plans for an upcoming mufti-day, fundraising, organisation of school play equipment and how the student body can support the P&F with the school fair planned for the end of the year.
Parent Teacher Conferences
A reminder that Parent Teacher Conference bookings are now open. Bookings can be made through Parent Lounge on the school website or the school app. We hope these conference opportunities provide parents a planned platform to find out how their child has settled in to the school year and their progress in learning. There will also of course be the opportunity to ask questions and find out how your child can make the next steps forward in their academic and social/emotional learning.
P&F
It has been great to see the healthy attendance and contribution of thoughts and ideas at our twice term Parents & Friends meetings this year. This group of dedicated community members provide significant, ongoing support to the school across many areas, including fundraising, feedback on school events, organisation of our uniform shop and sharing an invested interest in events, teaching and learning. They also contribute resources and learning experiences across the school through their fundraising efforts. We hope to continue to see many of our parents come along to these meetings to support the great work of our P&F.
Easter Hat Parade
Our K-2 Easter Hat Parade is coming up on Tuesday 26th of March. This will take place at 9:10am in the school chapel/hall. Our 3-6 students will come along to watch the parade and see the draw of the Easter Raffle, which has been organised by the Year 5 students. Parents are most welcome to come along and watch the parade.
Year 4 Camp
Next Monday our Year 4 students will be heading to Howmans Gap, near Falls Creek for their three day camp. We wish them a wonderful experience and look forward to seeing photos and hearing about their adventures on their return.
Constable Kym Crawford – Cyber Safety visit for Parents and Carers
Last night, Constable Kym Crawford, Police Youth Officer from the Riverina Police District, and former Lutheran School Wagga Wagga parent, came along to speak to parents about Cyber Safety. He spoke to parents about phone use, having open conversations with our children about online safety, online platforms such as Roblox, Snapchat and YouTube, parent permissions on devices and how the police can support families when significant issues come up.
We appreciate Kym’s support as we work to provide our students and families with age-appropriate education around keeping safe online, what to do if they come across content that is upsetting, unsafe or inappropriate, and how to call out or address unkind behaviour online. Kym has kindly offered to follow up with answers to any further questions parents might have, which we can pass along.
The eSafety Commissioner website is another great resource if families would like further information.

Kindergarten 2025 Enrolments
Do you have a child that will be starting Kindergarten in 2025? If so please see the link below for an enrolment application as we are finalising first round enrolment interviews at the end of Term 1.

Traffic – Drop off and Pick Up
Thank you to those parents who continue to abide by the school routines and traffic signs to ensure that our school drop off and afternoon pick up routines are safe and prompt.
A reminder that the main carpark is not a quick pick-up area. Parents must park, exit their car and pick up students from the resource centre. Queuing of cars in this area causes congestion of buses in the bus circle. If there are no carparks in the main can park, please do not queue, please exit and use street parking.
For those parents using the quick pick-up zone in the Kindergarten carpark, please do not queue across the crossing or the main car park entrance. For those parents that are waiting for students in the 3-6 area of the school, please wait until at least 3:25pm to come through quick pick up. It takes longer for our 3-6 students to walk up to quick pick up and this congests this area. Parents that are waiting for longer than 2 minutes will be asked to park to ensure the line moves quickly. If you need to exit your vehicle to secure your child in their car seat, please do not use quick pick up. It is best to park and collect your child from the gate.
We greatly appreciate your support in ensuring our students arrive and get home safely.

Values Focus
This coming Sunday The Church celebrates Palm Sunday. On Palm Sunday we remember Jesus’ arrival in Jerusalem and how his followers had celebrated, sang songs as they longed and hoped for change. I’m reminded that there have been many times in my life when I’ve gathered with people who have longed for something to change, the feeling of elation, of hope, of expectation.
The people who celebrated Jesus’ arrival also had to experience his death only a few days later. I can only imagine the depths of their feelings when things hadn’t gone the way they had hoped and everything came crashing down.
Easter is a story that reminds us that, even when things look like they are at the lowest, hope and light can, and will find a way to shine through it all. Resurrection is possible, change can and will come, peace, love and hope will find a way… even when it’s hard to see, even when it’s not in the way I want.
The message of Jesus continues to find a way to shine today, you are loved, you are accepted, you are enough, you are beautifully and wonderfully made.
Bethlehem Lutheran Church Easter services are:
Palm Sunday, 24 March at 9:30am
Maundy Thursday, 28 March at 7:30pm
Good Friday, 29 March at 9:30am
Easter Sunday, 31 March at 9:30am
Curriculum Matters
NAPLAN
Congratulations to all of our students who have completed their NAPLAN assessments for 2024. Thank you to our wonderful staff for helping to make this process run smoothly for our students. Catch up tests for students who were absent are being completed this week. Results will be available later in the year and further information will be sent home as we receive it.
Staff Planning Week
This week, all staff have spent a full day planning new learning programs for English and Maths as we continue to implement the new curriculum. Staff have worked collaboratively with grade partners to ensure that all learning experiences are evidence-based, relevant and engaging for our students. New quality texts to support the learning in English have been ordered and we are looking forward to sharing these programs with our students next term.
Celebration of Writing – 5R
This year, writing is a focus area across our school. We will be celebrating the writing process in our school newsletter by acknowledging the efforts of some of our wonderful student authors. This term, Year 5 have been reading a story called ‘Bindi’ by Kirli Saunders. This is a story that focuses on themes such as climate, bushfires and healing. The novel is written in ‘free verse’ meaning it does not rely on consistent patterns of rhyme or meter.
The students in Year 5 recently wrote their own ‘free verse’ poems on the topic of influential Australians and their contribution to society.
