From The ACTING Principal
Dear Parents
It is hard to believe how quickly this term is flying by. As always, there are several important updates and reminders that I would like to share with you.
Parent Teacher Interviews
At the end of this term, we will be running Parent-Teacher interviews for the whole school. These will commence on Thursday 26th September from 3.30 -7.30 pm and Friday 27th September up until lunch time. Please note, Friday 27th September is a pupil free day.
I understand that many of you have come to appreciate the student-led parent-teacher conferences, where students take an active role in discussing their progress and achievements. However, for this term, we have opted for traditional parent-teacher interviews instead.
This is for a number of reasons including:
• Scheduling Flexibility: The current term presents unique scheduling challenges due to various staff absences and commitments. To ensure that all parents have the opportunity to discuss their child’s progress, we found it necessary to revert to a format that allows for more flexible and convenient scheduling.
• Comprehensive Feedback: The traditional parent-teacher interviews will enable a more comprehensive discussion between parents and teachers. This format allows teachers to provide detailed feedback on academic performance, social development, and any areas of concern in a focused and uninterrupted setting.
• Support for all Students: Not all students are equally comfortable leading conferences, and some may struggle with articulating their progress and challenges. By having one-on-one interviews with teachers, we ensure that every parent receives a thorough update on their child’s development, regardless of the student’s ability to lead the discussion.
• Special Circumstances: This term, we have a few exceptional circumstances, including staff absences and other logistical considerations, which have made it challenging to coordinate student-led conferences effectively. We want to ensure that every parent has a meaningful and productive meeting with their child’s teacher.
We appreciate your understanding and flexibility as we navigate these changes. Our goal remains to provide you with valuable insights into your child’s progress and to support their educational journey.
Thank you for your continued support.
NCCD Data
WHAT IS THE NCCD?
The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) takes place every year.
The NCCD is a collection that counts:
• the number of school students receiving an adjustment or ‘help’ due to disability
• the level of adjustment they are receiving to access education on the same basis as other students.
Students are counted in the NCCD if they receive ongoing adjustments at school due to disability. This ‘help’ allows them to access education on the same basis as a child without disability. The NCCD uses the definition of disability in the Disability Discrimination Act 1992. Schools provide this information to education authorities.
HOW IS THIS DATA USED?
The NCCD data informs funding and work by schools and sectors. It ensures that support for students with disability becomes routine in the day-to-day practice of schools. The NCCD also supports students in the following ways.
• The NCCD helps schools better understand their legislative obligations and the Disability Standards for Education 2005.
• Schools focus on the individual adjustments that support students with disability. This encourages them to reflect on students’ needs and to better support students.
• The NCCD facilitates a collaborative and coordinated approach to supporting students with disability. It also encourages improvements in school documentation.
• The NCCD improves communication about students’ needs between schools, parents, guardians, carers and the community. The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) annually publishes high-level, non-identifying NCCD data.
The NCCD takes place in August each year.
Book Week Parade
Thank you to everyone involved in the Book Parade last Thursday. It was an amazing event, with lots of families at the school and our students dressed in a range of book characters to celebrate book week.

Over the coming weeks several of our students will be completing at the Wagga Eisteddfod. This week our school choir will be performing on Thursday 29th August and Miss Guymer’s fabulous Speech and Drama group will be performing on Friday 13th September, followed by her dance group on Friday September 20th, 2024. We wish all students well.
Sporting

Todd Woodbridge Cup – see sports report
Interschool Chess
The school team will play Gunning Public School today. We wish them all the best.
Father’s Day Stall
The Father’s Day stall was held today. The children gathered with excitement to select something to give their father or special father-like friend for Father’s Day this weekend. This is always such fun for them and is really not about the gift itself, but the process of acknowledging and showing appreciation for those who are important to us. We realise that this may also be a difficult time for children who may not have a father to celebrate with this year and so we encourage them to recognise and celebrate a significant father-like figure in their life.
Thanks to Ketura Weston, Tori Phillips, Edwina Chapman and Amita Nariya.
We look forward to celebrating with our students this Friday at our Special Father’s Day and Special Friends Breakfast.
Students not feeling well
Just a reminder that, if your child is feeling unwell and displaying COVID-/flu-like symptoms, they should stay at home until they are symptom-free. It is so important that we all do our part in ensuring we keep our school community fit and healthy. Thanks for your cooperation with this.

Values Focus
This week in Chapel we heard a creation story from Genesis 2, it’s not the 7 day creation story we’re used to. In this story God moulds the first human from the dirt and breathes God’s spirit into them, this human is then given the task to care for God’s creation. The story bible we read from this week suggests this story reminds us that we were all once farmers, that one of the first things God asked of us was to be good to the rich soil and land God created us from.
Climate Justice can often be a touchy subject, but I’d suggest that this scripture story continually reminds me that it’s a part of my being human that I care for creation, not just because God asked me to, but because, (as the story tells) I’m a part of it. It could be said that what happens to the soil, to creation happens to us.
I’d invite you all to consider a prayer practice this week, go for a walk around your neighbourhood, along the river or around the lake and pick up rubbish. For each piece say a quick prayer, perhaps “God, thank you for your beautiful creation” or “We are sorry for times when we forget to care for this beautiful world” or maybe your family would like to write your own one line prayers to say as you clean up the world.
Shalom

Todd Woodbridge Cup – Stage 3
On Friday 23 August, our school participated in the Todd Woodbridge Cup (TWC) at the South Wagga Tennis Club. We entered four teams of 10 in this modified tennis event.
Our students played games of doubles against Wagga Public School. Our teams performed extremely well placing first and second in the competitive division and first and second in the non-competitive division.
Competitive Team One – Rex Benecke, Riley Goldsworthy, Jude Thompson, Ryan Jose, Kirollos Estafanos (boys) Vaiga Boban, Amelia Bolton, Quinnzaarra Sankar, Charlie Smith and Eliza Gentle (girls) were successful winning all games and advancing to the state finals in Sydney next term.
A big thank you to Mrs Helen Whatmuff and Mrs Renee McLachlan for assisting with the teams, Zac Burhop for coordinating this event and our parent spectators.
Sydney FC Cup
We recently sent two teams to compete in the Sydney FC Cup – a regional competition to find the best local football schools.
At the girls carnival, our team started the day with a resounding win against Turvey Park before a draw against Lake Albert. We then met some stronger competition finishing the day with a couple of close losses. Even though the results didn’t all go our way, the day was a huge success with all of the girls enjoying themselves.
It was the boys turn next who had the added stress of being the defending champions. We began the day with a rematch of last years grand final against Wagga Public. We won this game 1-0 before finishing our pool matches with further wins qualifying us for the semi-final. Here the boys had a close match against Junee North before running out winners 3-1. In the Grand Final against Sturt Public, we came up against a very talented team who challenged us from the kickoff. We worked well together as a team but unfortunately conceded a few goals to lose the match 4-0. Regardless of being behind all match, the boys never gave up and tried their hardest to get back into the game. They should all be extremely proud of the way they played and represented our school.
NSWPSSA Rugby Union Championships
Rex Benecke participated at the NSWPSSA Rugby Union Championships in Wagga last week (Tuesday 20 August-Thursday 22 August). Rex was representing CIS at this three-day event.
The CIS team performed extremely well, placing third overall.

Game 4 – CIS drew with Sydney East (19-19)
Game 5 – Polding defeated CIS (31-14)
