2025 School Captains
I am so incredibly proud of the amazing job that our school captain nominees did with delivering their speeches on Thursday 14th November. We are in good hands indeed!
I congratulate our 2025 School Captains and Vice-Captains who were voted in by our Year 3 to 6 students and staff.
School Captains: Charlie Forsyth and Matilda Mercer
Vice-Captains: Liam Bruce and Ella Labens
I had the privilege of spending time with the final twelve and was incredibly impressed with their resilience and encouragement of each other. They showed genuine compassion and empathy for each other which were two of the qualities that most students spoke about in their speeches.
I look forward to working alongside our student leaders and Year 5 cohort in 2025.
ALWS Gifts of Grace
I’ve been reflecting lately as the Christmas decorations and food are well and truly out in the shops and the busyness of the season is looming. Last week you would have received a letter, booklet and flyer from Australian Lutheran World Service advertising their annual Gifts of Grace campaign. By donating to ALWS your kindness can help provide practical help where it’s needed most urgently to support people to transform lives. The season is a wonderful time of the year for many. For others, it’s challenging. I encourage you to read through the information provided by ALWS and consider supporting and blessing others through this act of service.
Carevan Food Appeal
This Christmas we will be making food donations to Carevan. Any donations of non-perishable food items can be placed under the Christmas Tree in the office. Donations will be greatly appreciated for a worthy cause who provides meals and social connection for people experiencing need in the Wagga Community.
With Christmas, comes the hope in the promise of God with us. Hope is one of the most powerful emotions we can experience as humans. It’s the confident expectation that something good will happen. As you prepare, may you experience this hope and give yourself opportunities to live out this hope. If you’re able, consider supporting ALWS and our Carevan Food Appeal, giving and sharing this hope to others less fortunate than ourselves.
Blessings for the week ahead,
Hollie Kinning
Principal
Lutheran Legends Awards
Congratulations to the students who received Lutheran Legends Awards at assembly on Friday 15 November.
Values Focus
What is your favourite Christmas song?
I’ve been asking students that question in chapel, and there seems to be a lot of kids that enjoy Jingle Bell Rock, Mariah Carey and The Carol of the Bells. As for me, I love Paul Kelly’s rendition of the song Christmas Must Be Tonight, originally played by The Band.
Christmas songs seem to fall in one of three categories. There are songs that have nothing to do with the story we tell in churches and homes around the world, but are full of love, joy and celebration, there are songs which borrow parts of the story and lean into poetic license, and there are songs that try hard to capture the story of the baby born to a couple in the back end of town who will bring peace to the world.
I think there’s place for all these types of songs in our Christmas celebrations. Luther once suggested that music can refresh and comfort us when we are sick and weary, and I cannot but help thinking that, as another year comes to an end these songs of hope and joy and peace come to us at a time when many of us are weary.
Perhaps your family can sit around the table this fortnight and put together a playlist of your favourite Christmas songs, songs that can refresh and renew you this season. Maybe you can search for some new and different songs too?
If you do, feel free to share your playlists with me, I’d love to see them.
Shalom

NSWCIS Cricket Trials
On Monday 18 November Charlie Forsyth, Derrick Daniel and Namish Sharma travelled to Sydney for the NSWCIS Cricket trials. There were 120 boys from Sydney/Regional NSW Independent Primary Schools trying out for 24 positions. The boys participated in a batting and bowling net session, followed by a modified game. At the conclusion of the trials, 33 boys were selected to trial again the following day. Congratulations to Charlie who was selected in the squad of 33 and invited to trial again. The final trial day consisted of another batting and bowling net session and modified game. Although Charlie, Derrick and Namish were not selected in the CIS team, they enjoyed the experience and high level of competition. Thank you to our parents and grandparents for transporting and supporting the boys at this event.
