Medical & Consents Form – Important Start of Year Update
Each year, families are asked to complete the Medical & Consents Form to ensure the school has current and accurate information for every student. While this information is initially provided at enrolment, details such as medical needs, emergency contacts and permissions can change over time.
Completing this form is an important requirement to support student safety and our duty of care. The form will be re sent next week to any families who have not yet completed it. Thank you for your cooperation.
Kinder Enrolments
Enrolment numbers for Kinder 2027 are looking encouraging. If you have a child due to start school next year, please ensure your enrolment application is submitted by the end of this term to secure a place. Enrolment interviews will commence in Week 1 of Term 2, so it is important that applications are received before this process begins.
Eating times
This term, we have been trialling a flipped play and eating time at lunch. You can read more about this approach and the experience of another school by clicking on the link below.
From our perspective, while there have been some aspects to refine, this change has been a positive one overall. We have received feedback from many parents noting that less food is coming home in lunchboxes, as students are able to enjoy playtime first without feeling rushed to eat.
We have also heard from a small number of families who shared concerns, and we hope that as the term has progressed, they are beginning to see some positive outcomes for their children.
We will continue with this model for the remainder of the year. We are seeing students return to the classroom more settled and ready to learn, having had time to play, then sit, eat and relax after being active outdoors.
Drop off/Pick up
We continue to receive a number of reports about safety concerns during drop off and pick up times. The safety of our students, families and staff is paramount, and it is important that all families follow the school’s guidelines and general road rules.
Please take note of the following reminders:
• No stopping zones must be kept clear at all times. Parking in these areas creates significant safety risks.
• The quick pick up area has a designated entry and exit. Please only enter through the gate closest to the Hall. Entering through the exit increases the risk of accidents and remains an ongoing concern.
• The administration car park is not a quick pick-up zone. When cars queue in this area, school buses are unable to move through. If no parking spaces are available, please exit the car park, go around the block and try again.
Thank you for your cooperation and for working with us to ensure drop off and pick up times are safe for everyone in our community.
I pray you all have a wonderful, restful break.
Blessings,
Hollie Kinning

Premier’s Reading Challenge
The NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge is now open and Lutheran School Wagga Wagga is excited to be participating!
What is the NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge?
The PRC is a state-wide challenge that encourages students to develop a love of reading for leisure and pleasure, and enables them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition, but a challenge to encourage each student to read, to read more, and to read more widely.
All students who complete the challenge and have their reading record validated by the school’s PRC coordinator will receive a certificate signed by the Premier of NSW.
How many books do students need to read?
Students in Kindergarten to Year 2 are challenged to read or experience 30 books. 20 of these books must be from the relevant Challenge booklists, and up to 10 books can be personal choice books. Books can be read with a parent, carer, teacher or another student.
Students in Year 3 to Year 6 are challenged to read 20 books. At least 10 of these books must be from the relevant Challenge booklists, and up to 10 books can be personal choice books.

Harmony Day
The SRC representatives would like to say thank you to everyone who wore a touch of orange last Friday to show our support for and belief in “everyone belongs”. The SRC shared a short video clip in Assembly the week prior and then during the week, classes completed collaborative colouring activities to highlight the importance of everyone belonging, respect and cultural understanding.
Look out for our fundraising ideas for next term in future newsletters.
No dogs allowed on School Grounds

Please note that NO dogs are allowed on school grounds at any time especially during drop off and pick up times.
Wishing you a restful and blessed Easter holiday.

Staff Planning Week
During Week 8, teaching staff have been engaged in a full day of dedicated program planning as we continue to embed the new Science and HSIE curriculum. Working collaboratively within grade and stage teams, teachers have refined units to ensure learning experiences are evidence-based, relevant, and engaging for all students.
Alongside this work, staff will also review their Mathematics and English programs to ensure alignment with the new curriculum is being implemented, supporting a smooth and well-supported transition for our school.

Supporting Your Child - Working Together
At Lutheran School Wagga Wagga, we value the strong partnerships we build with our families. When home and school work together, we can support every child in feeling confident, successful and ready to learn each day.
Many children receive support from professionals such as paediatricians, psychologists, occupational therapists, speech therapists or behaviour therapists. These specialists often provide helpful suggestions about learning, communication or emotional wellbeing. When families share this information with us, it allows our teachers to better understand each child and put the right supports and accommodations in place at school.
Sharing this information isn’t about focusing on challenges—it’s about helping your child thrive. Even small adjustments can make a big difference to how settled and successful a child feels during their school day.
Please know that any information you provide is treated respectfully and kept confidential. Our focus is simply to understand your child as well as we can so we can support their individual needs.
If your child has had assessments, receives therapy, or if you have new reports or recommendations, we encourage you to pass them on to us. Our aim is to work together to create a school experience where every child feels understood, supported and able to shine.

The Resilience Project - GEM Chats - Gratitude
Leading in to school holidays (or any time) is a great opportunity to try a GEM Chat at the family dinner table (or breakfast bar or in the car on the way to school). GEM Chats help families practice The Resilience Project’s principles, offering a simple wellbeing check-in while building stronger connection through daily conversations. See the GEM Chats Gratitude Poster for some simple prompts to encourage your family to engage in practising gratitude.

Love
Love your neighbour, love each other, love your enemy, love yourself, love God… The bible speaks of love a lot, but what does love really look like?
In this rapidly changing world, Jesus’ teaching about love – especially loving our enemies – keeps coming to mind. It’s hard enough for me to get my kids to show love to each other sometimes, let alone teach them to love their enemies. And when our world leaders often lean toward revenge, retaliation, blame, violence, and war, I wonder… how do I explain to my kids that God asks us to love everyone?
So… what does love look like?
Nadia Bolz-Weber, a Lutheran theologian, suggests that God shows us what love looks like – and who God is – through a cradle and a cross. In the life and death of Jesus, we see what God values. And let’s be clear:
God does not value vengeance.
On the cross, we see that God values love and forgiveness. We’re shown that God would rather die than be in the business of keeping score of our sin, or seeking vengeance.
As we approach Easter this year, I’m reminded that on the cross, God shows us what love looks like.
God’s judgement, God’s love… it looks like forgiveness.
May this school break, and this Easter be a place where that love, a patient, forgiving, cross-shaped love finds its way into our homes.
Shalom,
Darren Wright

A massive congratulations to all three boys who were selected in the team, this is a huge achievement which demonstrates the sportsmanship, skills, enthusiasm and teamwork displayed on the day. Eli, Jordan and Eddie will now go on to compete at the NSWPSSA AFL Championships in Sydney next term. Good luck!

Stage In The Spotlight
Early Stage
This term in kindergarten, we have been learning how to write super sentences! We’ve been using our “Sentence Smiley Face” checklist to help us remember what a great sentence looks like.
The children are practising to make sure their sentences:
• start with a capital letter
• end with a full stop
• have finger spaces between each word
• make sense
• include a verb (doing word)
We love seeing the children take pride in their writing and have a go at checking their own work. They are becoming more confident writers every day. Well done, Kindergarten!
