Dear Parents
Welcome to Week 8! Time is certainly racing by.
There are a number of important things happening in the coming weeks that we would like to bring to your attention.
SCHOOL UNIFORM TRANSITION
As the temperatures begin to change we do allow flexibility either side of the term break due to the variable weather conditions. Students may choose to wear either their summer or winter uniform. Parents are able to use their discretion during this period; however, please ensure that the correct summer or winter uniform is worn and not a combination of both.
PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS
Bookings for Parent Teacher Conferences are now open . The conferences will take place in the last week of term (Note that 3T will be holding their meetings on Monday 23 September and Friday 27 September). Please be aware that Friday 27 September is a pupil-free day as some of the conferences will take place that day. The booking for the Parent Teacher Conferences will close on Monday 23 September at 5pm. Teachers look forward to sharing your child’s academic and social learning progress and discussing any questions you may have.

FATHER’S DAY BREAKFAST
Thank you to all the Fathers and friends who attended our Father’s Day breakfast. It was such a delight to see so many people here, enjoying some breakfast and time together before school started. A special thank you goes to all the staff who volunteered to set up, cook, clean, serve and make the day so special.
EISTEDDFOD
Our choir participated in the Wagga Wagga Music on the 29th August where they came runners-up. Thank you to Stephanie Johnston from The Riverina Conservatorium of Music for all her time and effort in preparing the students.
Miss Guymer’s fabulous Speech and Drama group will be performing on Friday 13th September, followed by her dance group on Friday September 20th, 2024. We wish all students well.
LOOKING AHEAD TO TERM 4 AND PLANNING FOR 2025
As a school, we continue to focus on students’ connection with one another. Students who have a sense of belonging will experience feelings of security, identity and community, which in turn supports their academic, psychological and social development. We know that you want that for your children too.
In Term 4, we begin planning for the transition into the new year levels. We will not know which teachers will be in which year levels, and we won’t know that until late in Term 4. Hence, we don’t take any specific teacher requests for subsequent years. However, if you have things you would like us to consider in the placement of your child into a classroom in 2025, please email us at [email protected]. Your requests cannot be guaranteed but will be given careful thought in our planning.
Also, we will soon begin ordering materials for 2025. If you are planning to leave the school for relocation or other reasons, please let the office know no later than the first day of Term 4. As per enrolment contracts, families should give the school one full term’s notice prior to leaving to avoid charges for Term 1 2025.
MOVIE AND MUFTI DAY – THURSDAY 19TH SEPTEMBER.
The SRC recently gathered to plan a fundraising and fun event for this term. While we acknowledge the incredible efforts of our Year 6s raising funds for their end-of-year activities, the students were still enthusiastic about having a casual dress day. Therefore, we’ve decided to host a “Movie and Mufti Day” in support of the “Make A Wish” Foundation. For a gold coin donation, children can dress in casual clothes and enjoy the extra treat of selecting a G-rated movie to watch with their class or even with other classes. This has been planned for Thursday 19th September.
Our next SRC meeting will be held THIS FRIDAY 13th September at 1pm.
TOURNAMENT OF MINDS (TOM) COMPETITION
Congratulations to our TOM competitors who have worked so hard throughout the year culminating in their performance on the weekend. The students achieved second place and are to be congratulated for all of their hard work. A special thank you goes to Mrs Whatmuff for coaching the students throughout the year and giving up her time on the weekend to support and lead the team.
NEW PLAYGROUND WORK IS COMMENCING THIS WEEK
This week the K-2 Playground will be fenced off in preparation for the playground being removed and the new playground being installed over the holidays. We apologise for any inconvenience but emphasise that it is short term pain for long term gain. 😊
QUICK PICK-UP TIME CHANGE
Over the past two weeks, we have been closely monitoring our Quick Pick-Up processes to enhance the service we provide. We appreciate the parents who have been displaying their child’s family name card on the dashboard or visor at pick-up time—your cooperation has been invaluable.
As a result of our review, we have determined that we do not need to extend the staffing hours in the Quick Pick-Up area. As a result, we will revert to having staff on duty in this area until 3:35 pm, as we did previously. After this time, any remaining students will be taken to the bus supervision area for pick-up.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we work to improve our service.
DROP OFF REMINDERS
Please do not drop off your child prior to 8:15am. If your child needs to be at school before 8:15am, please use TheirCare as we do not staff/ supervise students until this time. Students who arrive between 8:15 and 8:30am are supervised at the silver seats outside the library only. At 8:30, students are taken to their area, K-2 or 3-6, and are supervised while they unpack and play until the bell goes at 8:55am. A reminder that the K-2 Playground is closed before and after school.
END OF TERM
Our CLOSING CHAPEL SERVICE will be held on THURSDAY 26TH SEPTEMBER at 2:20pm – led by the SRC Committee for Semester 2, 2024. All parents and friends are welcome to attend.

Values Focus
Deuteronomy 10:17-19 For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes. God defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing. And you are to love those who are foreigners, for you yourselves were foreigners in Egypt.
In chapel we’re continuing hearing what the scriptures tell us about Justice. This week we read from all over the bible and were reminded that Justice is a core theme of the scriptures, both of the New Testament and the Hebrew Scriptures. The people of God were called to be people of Justice and were reminded repeatedly to; “love those who are foreigners, for you yourselves were foreigners.” Sometimes it’s helpful to be reminded that we are to be people who love because we have been loved… our calling is to be people who pass it on.
How many times can you pass on the love you’ve been shown every day?
Perhaps that can be a fun conversation over breakfast, or over dinner each day, how have you received love, and how have you passed love on today? How did that make you feel?

Curriculum Matters
Celebration of Writing – KM
KM have been learning how to write to inform. They have been writing information reports on Australian Animals. Here are some fabulous examples on Sharks.
Tournament of Minds
The Tournament of Minds Competition was held on Sunday 8th September at Sturt Public School. Lutheran School entered two teams into this year’s competition. TOMorrow’s Champions – Harry Antrim, Charlotte Lieschke, Vaiga Boban, Amelia Gooden, Adrian Qiu, James Price and Jessica Stormonth-Flood competed in the Social Science Challenge, and PhanTOMs – Quinny Sankar, Kingsley Cheung, Ella Labens, Laia Donaldson, Kirollos Estafanos, Callum Metcalfe and Olivia Rigney competed in the Language Literature Challenge.
Both teams delivered exceptional presentations to the judges and audience, showcasing their remarkable skills and dedication. Their outstanding performances reflect their commitment to inquiry, teamwork, and a passion for learning. After many hours of preparation, it was wonderful to see both teams earn honours in their respective categories. This is a fantastic accomplishment to be placed 2nd against schools from across the Riverina. All the students deserve commendation for their impressive achievements and collaborative spirit.

R U OK Day
On September 12, the staff at the Lutheran School Wagga will proudly wear yellow and black in support of R U OK? Day, a nationally recognized initiative that raises awareness around suicide prevention. This day is dedicated to encouraging each of us to check in with one another, especially those who might be quietly struggling.
At the heart of R U OK? Day is the belief that simple, meaningful conversations can make a world of difference. It’s not just about asking a question—it’s about showing genuine care, listening without judgment, and offering support when someone might be going through a tough time. Their mission is to inspire and empower us all to reach out to the people in our lives and create a sense of connection and understanding, no matter how small.
We humbly ask you to take a moment from your day to learn more about R U OK? Day and the incredible impact it can have on the well-being of those around us. Sometimes, we don’t realise how much someone might need to hear that simple question: Are you okay?
We challenge you to start a conversation today. You never know the difference it could make in someone’s life.

Australian Snowsport Championships
On Monday 2 September Euan and Jack Nicholas travelled to Perisher for the Australian Snowsport Championships. The boys were super excited to be competing at their first Australian Championships as this event was cancelled in 2023 due to the snow conditions.
Euan was competing in Alpine (Division 6, Kinder-Year 2) and Jack was competing in Ski Cross and Alpine (Division 5, Year 3-4). The boys performed extremely well in their events, placing 8th out of 100 competitors. A remarkable achievement considering we live 4 hours from the snow!

Trent Barrett Legends Gala Day
On Tuesday 3 September our Stage 2 Rugby League (boys) and League Tag (girls) teams participated in the Trent Barrett Legends Gala Day at Paramore Park. We entered four teams in this modified event.
Our teams had an awesome day, winning 11 of their 12 games. Congratulations to Jordan Tracey, Mundarra Murray-King, Sophie Guiton and Pippa Clark on winning the coaches award for their respective teams.
A big thank you to our parent spectators, Mr Cal Gardner, Mrs Robyn Richards, Mrs Belinda Martin and Mr Tristan Brown for coaching our teams.
NSW CIS primary Athletics Championships
On Friday 6 September our Athletics Team travelled to Sydney Olympic Park for the NSW CIS Athletics Championships. There were over 265 Independent NSW Schools represented at this annual event.
Our team performed very well with many recording personal best times and placings. Congratulations to Jordan Tracey, Charlotte Hannaford and Ryan Jose who won gold, silver and bronze in their respective events and qualified for the NSW PSSA Athletics Championships in Sydney next term.
We congratulate all students on their achievements and wish Jordan, Charlotte and Ryan all the best.
A big thank you to Mrs Lauren Forsyth for managing the RAS Athletics team and our parents for transporting and supporting the students at this event.
NSWCIS Cricket Trials
On Monday 9 September Rex Benecke and Charlie Forsyth travelled to Sydney for the NSWCIS Cricket trials. There were 170 boys from Sydney/regional NSW Independent Primary Schools trying out for 12 positions. The boys participated in a modified game, followed by a 2 hour net session.
Although Rex and Charlie missed out on selection, they enjoyed the experience and high level of competition. Thank you to Lauren and Kate for transporting and supporting the boys at this event.

Families leaving the school
Please note that one full term’s written notice is required if you are withdrawing your child from Lutheran School. We purchase learning materials based on projected enrolment numbers at least one term in advance. Hence, the enrolment contract you signed specifies that failure to provide a term’s notice will result in you being charged for the subsequent term.
