Principal’s Report

Welcome Back to Term 2

Welcome back to Term 2. We hope all families enjoyed a restful break and that students are feeling refreshed and ready for the term ahead. Term 2 is always a full and rewarding term, with strong routines re-established and many opportunities for learning, connection and community across the school.

We look forward to working in partnership with families again this term as we continue to support our students’ growth, wellbeing and learning.

School Uniform – Survey Reflections
Last year we sought feedback from families through a school uniform survey. We are grateful to the many families who took the time to share their perspectives and reflections.

Please see the Uniform Feedback (click here to view) to view a summary of the survey feedback and the key reflections that have emerged from this process. This information outlines the major themes raised by families and provides clarity around how this feedback is being considered.

Thank you for your ongoing engagement and for contributing thoughtfully to conversations that support our school community.

ANZAC Day
ANZAC Day holds an important place in our school calendar and provides a meaningful opportunity for students to learn about remembrance, service and sacrifice.

We were proud to come together as a school community for our ANZAC Day service, where students participated respectfully and thoughtfully. Through prayers, readings and moments of silence, we honoured those who have served and continue to serve our country.

It was also once again good to be part of ANZAC Day March in Wagga. This year was different given the restrictions to numbers. We have requested clarification around future intentions regarding the event and expressed our thanks for the organising of the Wagga Wagga ANZAC Day march, but also our disappointment with the restrictions put on schools.

We thank all families who supported these commemorations and helped reinforce the importance of remembering those who have served, past and present.

Transition to winter uniform

Due to the unseasonably warm weather, we will be extending the transition into winter uniform until the end of Week 3. From Week 4 onwards, all students will be expected to wear their full winter uniform. If any further adjustments are needed, updates will be shared via the Parent Facebook groups for each year level.

School Photos

School Photos will take place on Wednesday, 7th May.

Anyone requiring sibling photo envelopes can collect them from the office.

Photo envelopes/orders need to be returned by Monday 4th May.

Please ensure your child arrives in full winter uniform with tidy hair and their best big smile. Students in Years 3–6 might also like to make sure their shoes are clean and shiny for the occasion.

As Thursday 7th May is also the Rugby 10s day, the boys participating in this event will have their class and leadership photos taken before they leave for the day. Any individual or sibling photos for these students will be taken on the catch‑up day, Thursday 14th May.

Traffic – Pick Up

Following a Police visit last week and recent clarification from NSW Police, families are advised that waiting or queuing along Tamar Drive in the signed ‘No Parking’ zone is not permitted when lining up to enter the car park for quick pick up. Police have been actively monitoring this area in recent weeks and will continue to do so to prevent congestion backing up onto Red Hill Road. This is new to us also and as this is an enforceable road rule we wanted to make you aware that you could be fined. We realise this will be an inconvenience however it is out of our control.

Based on this update we will be reflecting on our students safety and the feasibility of the current quick pick up system.

Our guideline for Quick Pick Up from the top Car Park

  • Students travelling home by car should be collected between 3:20pm and 3:35pm.
  • Please do not queue across the pedestrian crossing or block the car park entrance.
  • Ensure your dashboard name sign is clearly visible so staff can call students forward promptly.
  • Parents and carers must remain in their vehicles
  • Cars waiting outside the school must not block the public footpath.
  • When exiting, all vehicles are asked to turn left onto Tamar Drive to ensure the flow of traffic is continuous and smooth
  • For students in Year 3-6 please wait until at least 3:25pm before entering quick pick up as older students take longer to walk up, and early arrivals cause congestion.
  • Drivers waiting longer than two minutes may be asked to park so the quick pick up line can continue moving.
  • Supervision ends at 3:35pm; families needing later pickup are encouraged to use TheirCare.

Thank you to all families who continue to follow our school routines and traffic signs to keep drop off and pick up safe and efficient.

Athletics Carnivals

We are pleased to announce a new structure for our 2026 Athletics Carnival, with two separate events designed to better support student safety, participation and wellbeing. Years 2–6 will attend their Athletics Carnival on Thursday 28 May, while Kindergarten and Year 1 will enjoy their own dedicated Athletics Afternoon on Thursday 4 June. This approach allows for a calmer environment, smaller activity groups and developmentally appropriate events that help our youngest students participate with confidence, while still preserving the traditional carnival experience for older year levels.

This link will direct you to the email that was sent to Kindy and Year 1 parents last week.

More information and event programs for both carnivals will be shared closer to the time.

Cupcake Day

On Friday 1st May Cupcakes will be for sale for either $2 or $4 at both lunch and afternoon tea breaks as a fundraiser for Axel and his family.

Gluten free and diary free options will be available.

3-6 ENRICHMENT REPORT
MINDS IN MOTION: WHERE CURIOSITY COMES ALIVE

Put a group of curious students together with tricky problems, creative challenges and a bit of pressure and something special happens.

Over the last seven weeks, students have been engaged in a series of Da Vinci Decathlon inspired enrichment challenges, designed to extend thinking, foster creativity, and develop advanced problem-solving skills. Across areas such as mathematics, engineering, code breaking, language and literature, art, and general knowledge, students have been encouraged to think deeply, work collaboratively, and apply their knowledge in new and unfamiliar contexts.

A highlight of the program has been the range of engaging, high-level tasks. From cracking complex codes and solving mathematical problems to analysing texts and responding to creative thinking challenges, students have demonstrated persistence, curiosity, and a willingness to take on challenges. The “alphabet challenges” have been a particular favourite, requiring students to think flexibly and respond quickly, often producing thoughtful and imaginative ideas under pressure.

Collaboration has been a key focus throughout. Students have worked in teams to share ideas, justify their thinking, and refine their responses. These experiences have supported the development of communication, leadership, and teamwork skills, alongside academic growth.

These sessions have provided valuable opportunities for students to build confidence, demonstrate resilience, and engage in deeper levels of thinking. I am so proud of the way they have approached each challenge with focus, determination, and a genuine commitment to learning.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).

Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:
· year of schooling
· category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
· level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.

This information assists schools to:
· formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
· consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
· develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.

The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.

The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy http://(https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy).

Further information about the NCCD can be found on the http://NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).

Wellbeing Window

School Student Wellbeing Survey

Nurturing the wellbeing of our students is a vital part of supporting their learning, growth and sense of belonging. This week, our students in Years 2–6 will be participating in our regular Wellbeing Survey.

We typically conduct this survey twice each term to give us a helpful snapshot of how students are travelling with their wellbeing over time. This allows us to notice patterns, celebrate strengths, and respond early if a student may need additional support.

Through the survey, students are invited to reflect on key aspects of their wellbeing, including:
• Sense of belonging and connectedness
• Supportive relationships
• Safety and learning environment
• Learning engagement and mindset
• Personal wellbeing and health

Students also have the opportunity to share any worries they may have, as well as identify things that make them feel happy or proud. This helps us better understand what matters most to them.

All responses are treated confidentially. Classroom teachers, in collaboration with the Pastoral Care Leader or Learning Enhancement Coordinator, will follow up with any students who indicate they may need support in particular areas. As always, parents and carers will be kept informed if any concerns arise and will be included in conversations around supporting their child.

We value the voice of each child and see this survey as an important way to listen, care, and walk alongside our students as they grow. Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting the wellbeing of our school community.

Stage In The Spotlight

Art

Year 5 have been learning about Pablo Picasso and have been inspired by his work to create their own cubist style portraits using tissue paper to create a colourful base. When these were dry, students used black marker to draw facial features then painted a background colour for their work. Students enjoyed collaging their art and embraced the freedom that unrealistic portraiture work allowed them.
