Principal’s Report
As we begin Term 4, I hope all families enjoyed a restful break and were able to spend some valuable quality time together before the final push towards the end of the school year. School holidays often provide a welcome opportunity to slow down, recharge and appreciate the simple joys that can be missed during the busyness of term time.
One of my favourite parts of the break was taking time to admire the beautiful flowers of spring and enjoy the chorus of birdsong that now greets us at dawn, made even more noticeable with the recent change to daylight saving. Spring has certainly arrived in all its glory. Then, almost as a surprise, I found myself walking through the shops and noticing Christmas decorations already on display! It seems impossible that we are already beginning to see reminders of the festive season. How quickly the year has passed.
As Scripture reminds us, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens” (Ecclesiastes 3:1). The changing seasons are a wonderful reminder of God’s faithfulness and the rhythm He has created in our lives. They also encourage us to pause, reflect and make the most of the opportunities each season brings.
Although this first week has been a short one for students, it has certainly been a busy start to the term. Classrooms have quickly settled back into learning routines, and there is already a sense of excitement about the many activities, events and learning opportunities ahead. We have also welcomed students and staff into our newly refurbished Year 6 learning spaces, which provide a fresh and inviting environment for teaching and learning. It was also a delight to see nearly 200 grandparents and special friends join us on Friday for Chapel, classroom activities and morning tea. Their presence brought great joy to our school community and highlighted the special relationships that enrich the lives of our students. Term 4 is always a special time of growth, reflection and celebration as students consolidate their learning and strive to finish the year strongly.
Thank you for your continued support of our school community. I look forward to sharing a rewarding and memorable final term with our students, staff and families.
Planning for 2027
As we begin planning for the transition into new year levels, teacher allocations will not be confirmed until late in Term 4. For this reason, we are unable to accept specific teacher requests for the following year. Current classroom teachers will however begin the process of organising class lists for 2027 in the coming weeks.
If there are factors you would like us to consider when placing your child in a class for 2027, please email us at admin@lpsww.nsw.edu.au. While we cannot guarantee that all requests will be met, each will be thoughtfully considered during our planning process. We kindly request that you email, even if you have already had conversations with your child’s classroom teacher, so we have this information in writing.
If you are planning to leave the school for relocation or other reasons, please let the office know as soon as possible.
Deputy Principal’s Report
Arriving at School on Time
The school day begins promptly at 8:55am, and we encourage all students to arrive before this time so they are settled, organised and ready to begin learning with their class. Arriving on time allows students to participate fully in important morning routines, receive key instructions for the day, and start their learning alongside their peers. Regular punctuality also helps students develop positive habits and reduces interruptions to both their own learning and the learning of others.
If your child arrives after 8:55am, they must be accompanied by a parent or carer to the school office and signed in before heading to class. Students will then be issued with a late note, which should be presented to their classroom teacher. This process ensures that attendance records remain accurate and confirms that the student has arrived safely and been signed in correctly. Thank you for your support in helping us maintain a safe and orderly start to each school day.
Grandparents Day
It was wonderful to welcome almost 200 grandparents and special friends to our school on Friday for Chapel, classroom activities and morning tea. The joy and excitement throughout the morning were evident, with smiles everywhere, even from those squeezing into our students’ chairs! We are grateful for the opportunity to celebrate these special relationships and thank all who attended for making the event such a memorable occasion. We look forward to hosting a similar event again next year.
P&F Donation
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to our P&F for their generous donation of two Chromebook charging carts for our Year 2 classrooms. These new carts provide a secure and organised storage solution for our devices while also helping to maximise valuable classroom space. The charging carts ensure Chromebooks are safely stored, fully charged and readily available to support student learning each day. We are incredibly grateful for the ongoing support of our P&F, whose contributions continue to enhance the learning environment for our students.
Parking Around Our School
As Term 4 gets underway and the end-of-year period becomes increasingly busy, we encourage all families to take a moment to review the attached parking reminders received from the Wagga Wagga City Council. These important guidelines are designed to promote safe and responsible parking practices around schools and within the wider community.
By following parking signs, observing designated drop-off and pick-up zones, and being mindful of pedestrians and other road users, we can all contribute to a safer environment for our students, families and neighbours. Council Rangers work closely with the community to educate drivers about parking regulations, road safety and accessibility requirements, helping to ensure public spaces remain safe and accessible for everyone.

Day for Daniel – Friday 30 October
On Friday 30 October, students are invited to wear a red T-shirt in support of Day for Daniel, Australia’s largest child safety education and awareness day.
While no donation is required, any contribution you are able to make will be gratefully accepted by the SRC reps and forwarded to support this important cause. Throughout the day, teachers will be using age-appropriate resources from the Day for Daniel website to engage students in discussions about personal safety, recognising trusted adults, and strategies for seeking help when needed. We look forward to coming together as a school community to raise awareness and promote child safety.
Student Clubs
Our popular Friday Afternoon Clubs will be held in Weeks 1, 3 and 4 this term. These clubs provide students with the opportunity to explore new interests, develop skills, work collaboratively with their peers and engage in activities outside the regular classroom program. Whether students are creating, building, problem-solving or participating in hands-on challenges, the afternoon is always filled with enthusiasm, creativity and fun.
We thank our staff for providing these engaging opportunities and look forward to seeing students enjoy another successful round of clubs.

Building Strong Problem Solvers in Mathematics
Mathematics is about much more than learning number facts and completing calculations. One of the most important skills we develop in our students is the ability to think critically and solve problems. Problem-solving encourages students to apply their mathematical knowledge in new situations, make connections between concepts, explain their thinking, and persevere when faced with challenges.
In our mathematics lessons, students regularly engage in rich problem-solving tasks that require them to explore different strategies, work collaboratively, and justify their reasoning. Teachers model effective problem-solving approaches, encourage multiple solution methods, and provide opportunities for students to discuss and reflect on their thinking. Through activities such as open-ended investigations, real-world challenges, mathematical games, and hands-on learning experiences, students learn that there is often more than one way to solve a problem.
By continually developing these skills, we are helping our students become confident, resilient learners who can think creatively, communicate effectively, and approach challenges with a positive mindset. These are valuable skills that extend far beyond the mathematics classroom and prepare our students for success in everyday life.
Wellbeing Window
Emotional Literacy at Home
As part of our wellbeing learning, students are developing their emotional literacy. Emotional literacy is the ability to recognise, understand and name our emotions. When children can identify how they are feeling, they are better able to understand why they feel that way and use strategies to manage their emotions effectively.
Parents can support emotional literacy at home by creating opportunities to talk about feelings. A simple strategy recommended by The Resilience Project is to ask family members to share an emotion they felt during the day, what caused that feeling, and what they did to help themselves manage it. These conversations help children build self-awareness, resilience and confidence in expressing their emotions.
Remember, there are no “good” or “bad” emotions. Helping children understand that all feelings are normal is an important step in supporting their wellbeing.

Every Family Has Their Own Story…
It was a huge blessing to see so many grandparents sharing their love for learning and for their family at Friday’s Grandparent Day celebration. The story of Abraham’s family reminds us that faith is often passed on to every generation through family stories, told around campfires, at family gatherings and mealtimes. By the time Jacob blessed Ephraim and Manasseh he was able to tell them about the God who had walked with, and guided Abraham, Isaac and himself through every twist and turn of life.
Grandparents and parents have a special gift they can share with children – their stories. Children love hearing about what life was like when their grandparents and parents were younger, the challenges they faced, the funny moments they remember, their past loves and struggles and how God has walked with them along the way. Just like in the times of Jesus, the stories of our ancestors help us know where we belong and remind us that we are a part of something bigger than ourselves.
Just as important are the stories of the bible, when grandparents and parents share these stories with children they can learn about God’s love, faithfulness and promises together. As in the time of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph and Jesus these stories can still be passed down from generation to generation and can stay with us for a lifetime, reminding us all who we are, where we belong and ensuring God’s faithfulness is remembered for years to come.

Stage In The Spotlight
A Celebration of the Performing Arts at LSWW!
On the last day of Term 3, just before the holiday break, the entire school gathered for our Performing Arts Showcase concert. Moved forward from its usual December date in Term 4, this year’s concert was again a massive success, with a many of our students having the chance to showcase their progress in Dance, Music and Drama. A ‘very well done’ to the students who shared their amazing talents. Congratulations to anybody who helped prepare our students: staff from Riverina Conservatorium, Speaking Out and various others.
A huge thank you to our musical groups: the school Choir and Miss Johnston, the K-2 and Year 3-6 Dance Teams with Miss Guymer, and the Stage Three Recorder ensemble.
Amazed by the incredible variety of talent on display, we had performances from a solo dancer, a singer, a flautist, violinists, guitarists, and numerous pianists – ranging from nervous beginners to highly adept musicians. The audience was treated to entertaining poetry, amusing skits, and even a surprise appearance from Spider-Man. The sheer variety and quality were outstanding.
Our school captains are to be commended for hosting the concert in a smooth and highly professional manner. They were well supported by the vice-captains and our student ‘tech team,’ who worked behind the scenes to keep everything running perfectly.
A huge thank you to Mr Beau Woodland for his technical and practical support beforehand, and to Mr Gavin Richards who helped out on the day. Thank you to Mrs Hollie Kinning, Ms Emma Davenport, Mrs Nicole Verus and our wonderful office staff for their administration assistance. Thanks also to other LSWW staff who assisted in a variety of ways.
And of course, a massive thank you to you, our supportive parents, families and friends – for those who were in attendance and those who cheered from afar. We appreciate your positivity. It was such a lovely concert.

YEAR 2
This term in Science, Year 2 students are investigating the properties of rocks found in natural formations and exploring how rocks have been used by people for a variety of purposes, including rock walls, road cuttings and Aboriginal rock art. This week, students used their senses to closely observe different rock samples and describe features such as texture, colour, and grain or crystal size. Through hands-on investigations, they are developing their observation skills and recording their findings using notes, labels and annotations. Students have also been using their observations to write descriptive sentences, incorporating precise vocabulary to communicate their ideas clearly.
YEAR 1
Year 1 are learning about extinct animals in science. We are exploring fossils and finding evidence to support their existence. These are our dinosaur skeleton puzzles in the jungle.
