MISSION STATEMENT

To work under God in partnership with parents to provide an inclusive, nurturing and high quality education for every student.

VIsion

Flourishing through faith, belonging and the pursuit of excellence.

From The ACTING principal

There is a season for everything, and things can change so quickly. The year is racing by and before we know it, Easter will be upon us. The Bible reminds us in Jeremiah, ‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord. ‘Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.’

Life is an adventure and I know that God has plans for me in mind. I have received such a warm welcome from the staff and students here at Lutheran School and I feel very grateful for the opportunities, twists and turns that have led me to this phase of my journey. I am really looking forward to being part of the community for the remainder of the term and look forward to building connections with staff and students.

Here’s a quick summary of my journey to date… I am married to Paul and have three children: Elijah (Yr 8), Meggie (Yr 6) and Thea (Yr 4). I grew up on a farm in between Jindera and Walla. My family and I now live in Jindera. In my spare time, I love to play the piano and sing, run around the netball and tennis court, and chase my children around the countryside doing the same things.

I worked at St John’s Lutheran Primary, Jindera for many years in varying roles and I’m now currently in my third year as Deputy Principal at St Paul’s Lutheran Primary, Henty. In between both schools, my family moved to Beijing where my husband and I taught in an International School, (Beijing International Bilingual Academy). It was, however, around the COVID period, so our adventure was cut short. Nonetheless, it was a wonderful adventure, and we are so glad we took the leap.

I feel blessed to have had some wonderful experiences in my life so far. I know that my time here at Lutheran is another example of God’s love and the plans He has. Feel free to reach out, or to simply say hello at drop off or pick up. I feel blessed to be here and look forward to working alongside and supporting staff and families over the next six weeks.

From The ACTING DEPUTY Principal

Our amazing students have shown amazing resilience, adaptation and confidence in settling in to and embracing their learning across the school this term. It is wonderful to see our students so engaged and interested in their learning.

Farewell Mr Evans
Last Wednesday, we had a fitting farewell, celebrating Mr Evans and his great contribution to our school. Our School Captains and Vice Captains prepared and delivered a speech, the SRC members from each year level presented Mr Evans with a card and the students sang one of Mr Evans’ favourite songs, “Here Comes the Sun”, by The Beatles. We continue to think of and pray from Mr Evans as he recovered after his surgery this week.

Technology and Worship Leader Induction
Last Friday at assembly we inducted our 2024 Worship and Technology Leaders, presenting them with their badges. These students have already been doing an amazing job at our Chapels and Assemblies. We wish these students well in their roles this year.

Civic Theatre – The Smeds and the Smoos
Last week, our Year One and Year Two students travelled to the Civic Theatre to watch a performance of The Smeds and the Smoos. This was an adaptation of the book written by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. The students had a wonderful experience at the theatre, seeing a live performance and enjoying a lovely morning out.

Values Focus

This term we’ve been hearing stories of Jesus’ disciple Peter in Chapel, he’s an interesting man who swung between making amazing statements of faith and incredible fumbles too. One second he’s jumping out of a boat to walk on water with Jesus, the next he’s drowning. One minute he’s making a claim that Jesus is the Messiah, the next he’s denying Jesus.

I like Peter because he often reminds me of myself, particularly when he fumbles… publicly.

This week we shared the story of Jesus trusting Peter to be the leader of his church, it’s the ultimate example of Jesus seeing the best in Peter and naming it. How amazing it is when someone sees the best in us and says ”you’re wonderfully made or you’re incredible”?

When was the last time someone saw the best in you, or recognized a gift? When was the last time you recognized and named someone else’s gift?

Perhaps this week you might find the time each day to remind those around you that they are incredible, they are loved, they are wonderfully made in the image of God and bring colour, rhythm and rhyme to God’s story?

From The Sports Desk

Soccer Gala Day
Our Year 3 and Year 5 students participated in the Mini Matildas and Mini Socceroos Gala Days last week. We entered four Year 5 teams and six Year 3 teams in this modified event. Our teams played 4 x 20-minute games against schools from Wagga and surrounding towns. The students demonstrated impressive skills, terrific teamwork and fantastic sportsmanship.
A big thank you to Liam Dedini for organising this event, the staff who assisted throughout the week and our wonderful parent coaches, Jodie Mitchell, Jenna Lamont and Nathan Miles. Thank you also to Mr Evans, Mr Richards and Mr Lieschke for organising the marquee each day and our parent spectators for your support.

NSWCIS Tennis Championships
On Monday 26 February Rex Benecke, Vaiga Boban and Jude Thompson travelled to the Kings School in Sydney for the NSWCIS Tennis Championships. The students played 6 matches, first to four games. Although Rex, Vaiga and Jude were not selected in the CIS team, they enjoyed the experience, had fun and improved their tennis.

Rex Benecke – ‘I enjoyed playing the best players in NSW. Although there were some ups and downs, the experience was worth it.’
Vaiga Boban – ‘Everyone was very nice and supportive. There were lots of talented players.’
Jude Thompson – ‘It was really fun playing skilled players. Even though it was hard, it was a great experience.’

Thank you to Lyndon, Boban and Gen for transporting and supporting the students in Sydney.

Combined Wagga Diocesan-RAS Swimming Carnival
On Wednesday 6 March the Combined Wagga Diocesan–RAS Swimming Carnival was held at the Oasis Regional Aquatic Centre. There were over 400 students from Riverina Catholic and Independent Schools competing at this event. Our Swimming Team performed very well, with many recording personal best times and placings.
Congratulations to Liam Bruce who placed 3rd in the 11 Years Boys Breaststroke and 3rd in the 11 Years Boys Backstroke, Joel Thompson who placed 2nd in the 9 Years Boys 50m Freestyle and our Senior Boys Relay Team; Jude Thompson, Liam Bruce, Charlie Stevens and Rex Benecke who placed 3rd in the 4 x 50m Freestyle Relay.
Thank you to Jane Antrim and Belinda Martin for assisting on the day, Anna Keogh (Catholic Education Officer) and the Wagga Wagga Swimming Club Officials for ensuring the carnival ran smoothly. We wish the students who qualified for the NSWCIS Swimming Championships in Sydney all the best.
