The joys and challenges of transition

Whether it is starting school for the first time, moving up to a higher grade or embarking on a journey through secondary school, there is no doubt that any school transition is a very exciting time for children and parents. It means that the children are growing up!

However, for many it may also be a very anxious and stressful time for both parents and children. Parents need to be aware of their child’s feelings during any school transition and minimise anxiety so the process is an enjoyable experience for all. It is important for children to attend transition or orientation programs offered by schools. Familiarisation is often key to reducing stress levels. It is also important for parents to talk to their children about their expectations and being more responsible for their own needs.

How much do you know about stress and transitions?

A short quiz available through our School.tv subscription can tell you. It will also guide you to resources that can help your family through this time of ‘unknowns’: https://lpsww.nsw.schooltv.me/node/1336/take?ne=1445

Learning about next year’s teachers

This coming Monday, your child will participate in a “Mini-O” session, also known as “Mini Orientation”. Beginning after Assembly, year level groups will be taken to the classrooms they will be in for 2022. As they arrive, they will meet the two teachers who will be leading that year level.

Later next week, you will receive a specific list of students who will be together for the specialist classes: Music, PE, Creative Arts and STEM. You will also know the name of the teacher with whom you will make first contact with questions and concerns. Note that your child will be taught by both year level teachers throughout the year. They will also work with all the other students in the grade level.

Your child’s class teachers look forward to meeting with you early in the year to begin building a partnership to support your child in their learning for the year ahead.

School Captain Speeches for 2022

Our 12 nominees for School Captain spoke to the Stage 3 students and Y3-4 students and their parents via a live stream. They presented their case about why they would make a good leader for the school for 2022.

Congratulations to all of the students involved in this process. All of the students presented to a high standard and the voting process is now underway.

Y6 celebration at school
At 6pm the T6 students had an opportunity to spend some time together at a casual barbeque, with some games, speeches and a disco to conclude the evening.

Next Monday 6 December at 9:15am we will hold our end of year assembly. Unfortunately due to COVID restrictions this is a student only event. This event will be streamed to classrooms and parents.

A link will be provided closer to the date.

Our new School Captain’s for 2022 will be presented to the school and a number of end-of-year awards will be presented, including the winner of the House Summit Cup.

Mufti Day
This term’s mufti day will now take place on Wednesday, 8 December. This will coincide with the student class celebrations for K-Y5.

Due to Covid restrictions there will be no food sharing, and students will be required to bring their own festive lunch. Students should wear sun safe clothes (no singlets or thongs please).
